A great big ‘thank you!’ to our amazing fundraisers Claire Price and Vicky Macqueen, both running the London Marathon this weekend on behalf of The Lee Spark Foundation!
Vicky is a survivor who contracted necrotising fasciitis in 2013 and was close to an amputated leg but because of the amazing and swift actions of the doctors and nurses at George Elliot hospital in Nuneaton, managed to make a full recovery! Since then Vicky has run half marathons and marathons to raise money for this rare and misunderstood disease… as we know funds are desperately needed to heighten awareness of symptoms and in the public and the professionals, so we are hugely grateful to Vicky to be running the London Marathon on behalf of our charity. Vicky has so far raised an impressive £655! If you’d like to sponsor Vicky, you can do so here.
Claire Price is running her first (and last!) Marathon this weekend after her stepson Josiah contracted necrotising fasciitis when he was only 10 years old. A perfectly healthy boy, and to this day we have no idea how he contracted the infection. Can you imagine a 10 year old boy coming home on Friday afternoon, full of beans for the coming weekend, complaining of an aching ankle and a headache on the Saturday, and by Sunday night lying in intensive care on life-support having undergone the first of the 13 operations that he would need over the next 5 weeks. Such is the speed at which NF moves and its devastating impact. Thankfully he was in the right place at the right time – Kings College Hospital and the Evelina Children’s Hospital at St Thomas’s in London provided amazing medical care and saved his life. Fortunately, he has made a full recovery, with scars to invent stories about, and is doing everything as an 18 year-old that we ever hoped for. Claire has raised an amazing £2495 so far! If you’d like to sponsor Claire, you can do so here.
We are so proud of both of you and feel very blessed that you would chose to raise money for our charity! We’ll be there cheering you on from the side-lines! Good luck!
