In these uncertain times, The Lee Spark NF Foundation has obtained the following expert advice from Dr Tom Parks and Professor Shiranee Sriskandan on coronavirus for survivors of necrotizing fasciitis and their families:
“Overall, there is no reason for survivors of NF or their families to be more concerned about coronavirus (COVID-19) than anyone else.
However, as for the rest of the nation, it is vitally important they pay close attention to the Government’s guidance on staying at home and away from others to minimise the risk of catching the virus themselves or passing it on to others: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/full-guidance-on-staying-at-home-and-away-from-others/full-guidance-on-staying-at-home-and-away-from-others.
In addition, a minority of survivors may fall into the group that the Government has described as ‘extremely vulnerable’ due to a list of specific underlying health problems such as organ transplant recipients or cancer patients undergoing active chemotherapy.
The full list of conditions and instructions about what to do are available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-on-shielding-and-protecting-extremely-vulnerable-persons-from-covid-19/guidance-on-shielding-and-protecting-extremely-vulnerable-persons-from-covid-19.
While many NF survivors have ongoing long-term health problems, thankfully most will not be in this ‘extremely vulnerable’ category and any that are should be contacted by the NHS in the coming days with advice.”
Note that the information on Government websites will continue to be updated in the next few weeks. Please make sure you use the most up-to-date information by following the links to “Updated Guidance”.”
Take care,
Dee
