Introducing Counselling Support for the NF Community

Jul 28, 2026 | Awareness, Latest News | 0 comments

At The Lee Spark NF Foundation, we know that surviving Necrotising Fasciitis—or supporting a loved one through it—is only part of the journey. The physical recovery is often followed by a complex emotional road, where trauma, PTSD, and grief can feel overwhelming to carry alone.

We are proud to share that we now offer a free volunteer counselling service dedicated to supporting survivors and family members affected by NF.

If you’ve been wondering if therapy might be right for you, here is how a dedicated, confidential space can help you heal at your own pace.

How Counselling Can Help You Navigate NF-Related Trauma

Counselling offers a calm, confidential space where your experiences can be spoken aloud and held with care. For people living with PTSD or trauma related to NF, the world can often feel unpredictable, overwhelming, or isolating. Counselling creates a consistent place where you don’t have to manage everything alone. Instead, you can explore what you’ve been carrying with someone who is trained to listen deeply, attune to your pace, and support you without judgement. It’s not about being “fixed” or pushed to talk before you’re ready — it’s about having a relationship where your story, your reactions, and your needs make complete sense.

Trauma affects both the mind and the body, and counselling helps you understand how your nervous system has been shaped by what you’ve lived through. Many people with PTSD or NF‑related trauma experience hypervigilance, emotional numbness, intrusive memories, or a sense of being “on alert” even when nothing dangerous is happening. In counselling, you can begin to recognise these patterns with compassion rather than shame. Over time, this awareness helps you feel more grounded, more in control of your responses, and more connected to yourself again.

Counselling is also beneficial because it gives you space to process the impact of NF on your life or your family. Trauma connected to NF can be complex — it may involve medical uncertainty, witnessing a loved one suffer, navigating systems that felt frightening or invalidating, or carrying grief that hasn’t had room to be expressed. Counselling allows these layers to be explored gently and at your pace. You can talk about what happened, how it shaped you, and what you need now, without feeling like you’re burdening anyone or needing to protect others from your feelings.

Most importantly, counselling supports healing through relationship. Trauma often happens in moments where you felt alone, powerless, or overwhelmed. Counselling offers the opposite: a steady, attuned connection where you can rebuild trust, reclaim your voice, and slowly create a sense of safety in your body and your life. It doesn’t erase what happened, but it helps you carry it differently — with more clarity, more support, and more compassion for yourself.
